Trapped in the entry room, Jessup, Arvie, and Remy fought desperately against the dragons. He was pleased to have the opportunity for a duel. Meanwhile, Friar Kay heard an evil laugh, and out of the darkness stepped Rahadin, Strahd’s chamberlain. Cato, Ireena, and the two hunters were still outside.įour dragon-shaped gargoyles in the entry room transformed into red dragons and breathed fire all at once upon the helpless trio below. When Jessup, Arvie, and Remy moved into the entry, the doors behind them suddenly closed, and the doors on the other side of the room slammed shut as well. Friar Kay strode past him, through the entry room and through another doorway into a great columned room with gargoyles looming down from the dark ceiling. Jessup hauled the massive front doors open.
It was almost as if Strahd knew the companions had come to face him one last time. Sporadic flashes of lightning lanced through the clouds overhead as thunder shook the ground. Through the gloom of the thick fog and cold rain, the courtyard looked of considerable size. Thunder rumbled overhead, followed by a light drizzle of rain. The two hunters were glad to see their adventuring friends again, and gladly joined them in their quest to kill the devil Strahd.Īfter winding through the forest and craggy mountain peaks, the road took a sudden turn to the east, and the startling, awesome presence of Castle Ravenloft towered before them. Kay ran through the trees to find Szoldar & Yevgeni skinning a dead wolf. And then they heard gunshots coming from the north, followed by familiar voices bickering with each other. They heard the small sounds of the woods, the things moving, the claws in the dead leaves, the wind’s soft sighs. While Friar Kay was widely recognized as the leading authority in the church, there would always be a grumpy, gunsmoke-smelling shadow in the background ready to root out their enemies at a moment’s notice.Ĭato and Ireena moved into Castle Ravenloft together, hoping to clean the place up and perhaps even start a family here.Ī few Barovians departed, fearing the return of the darkness or longing to see their ancestral homelands. After all, growing and reaping were both part of the eternal cycle and the most natural part of life. Jessup helped support Kay’s church by hunting down and destroying the last remnants of evil in Barovia. Friar Kay established a church of Chauntea, and the Martikovs were more than happy to team up with him to ensure the valley had plenty to drink. Though escape was now possible, most realized that they had nowhere to go and no reason to leave.
The Barovians, shocked out of their despair, took the sunlight as a sign that the evil in their land had been purged. The dark clouds that had loomed over the valley for centuries gave way to sunshine. The fog that had surrounded the land for so long now thinned and dissipated.
